Mansour-led delegation leaves for Tashkent

KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Energy and Water Maulvi Abdul Latif Mansour has left for Tashkent at the head of a delegation to participate in the Uzbekistan’s 5th International Energy Conference.

The conference will take place in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, from May 13 to 15, the Ministry Energy and Water (MoEW) said.

A statement from the ministry said the conference titled “Regional Cooperation for Sustainable Energy” provides a valuable opportunity for exchanging views on strategies for regional cooperation in the energy sector, the development of advanced energy markets and the transition to a green economy.

It said the conference is aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in the energy field, exploring investment opportunities in joint projects, exchanging experiences in expanding regional energy markets and transferring green technology and discussing participation in electricity and gas transmission projects in Central Asia.

It will also cover the use of renewable energy and solutions to challenges in water and energy projects.

According to the ministry, the participation of the Afghan delegation would contribute to enhancing bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan in water and energy projects, benefiting from the experiences of regional countries in resource management, and attracting foreign investment in Afghanistan’s energy sector.

The statement added Minister Mansour would also hold discussions on key topics such as enhancing cooperation in the field of energy and modern technologies, and addressing existing challenges.

The conference will be attended by representatives from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, and other regional countries, along with international organisations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency and the World Bank.
