Baradar, Mordovian president discuss investment opportunities

KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar held a meeting with Mordovian President Artyom Zdunov in Russia.

At the meeting on the sidelines of the 16th session of the Kazan Economic Forum, Baradar said Afghanistan currently has many opportunities for investment in various sectors for foreign investors.

His office quoted Mullah Baradar in a statement as saying that the 16th Kazan World Economic Forum offered a good opportunity to establish cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, trade, electricity and other fields.

“Afghanistan has high-quality products such as dried and fresh fruits, national carpets, precious stones, marble and other minerals. We are ready to start exporting these products to the Republic of Mordovia.”

He continued” “We are also interested in importing electrical appliances, construction materials, industrial machinery, petroleum products, natural gas and raw aluminum, railway wagons and transport-related equipment and supplies from Mordovia to meet domestic needs.”

The statement said that Mullah Baradar invited Mordovian investors to invest in the industrial, mining and agricultural sectors in Afghanistan and assured them of all kinds of cooperation and support.

For his part, the Mordovian President called the meeting an opportunity to initiate and develop economic and trade relations between the two countries and said that Mordovian investors were ready to work in the Afghan market.

He added that his country had progressed in the fields of medicine, agriculture, energy, and pharmaceutical production and was ready to work together with Afghanistan in these areas.

He said that Mordovia exported agricultural products to many countries and wanted to start exporting them to Afghanistan as well.

The statement said that Mordovian investors showed interest in investing in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce  Nuruddin Azizi also said in the meeting that Afghanistan was ready to start large-scale trade with Mordovia in the fields of food, agricultural products, and industrial products.

He added that Afghan companies would be introduced to the Mordovian side in this regard for the purpose of working together.

It is worth mentioning that a high-ranking delegation of the Islamic Emirate, led by Mullah Baradar traveled to Tatarstan the previous day to participate in the “16th Kazan World Economic Forum.”
