5 convicts punished publically in Laghman, Paktia

MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Five people, including a woman, have been publically punished in eastern Laghman and southeastern Paktia provinces, the Supreme Court (SC) announced on Monday.

In a statement, the apex court said two people, including a woman, were punished publically over elopement in Alingar district of Laghman province.

According to the Alingar primary court’s decision, which the apex court upheld, the man was sentenced one year imprisonment and lashed 30 times, while the woman was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and lashed 30 times.

Separately, the apex court said three individuals were punished publically on charges of theft and sodomy in Ahmad Aba district of Paktia province.

Out of these individuals, two were lashed 35 times each and the third individual was lashed 30 times.

On Saturday, ten individuals received similar punishment in Laghman province after being convicted of various crimes.
