KABUL (Pajhwok): A new township for refugees is being built in southern Helmand province, where more than 4,000 plots will be distributed, the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing said on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing said the residential schemes was being constructed on 2,500 acres of land in Washir district..
At the project’s opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi said the forced deportation of refugees by neighboring countries was against all principles.
He said all services and plots would be provided to refugees deemed eligible.
Acting Minister Sheikh Hamdullah Nomani explained the township will be built in accordance with all building standards.
“Refugees are people who emigrated from their country to protect their religion, honor, and dignity”.
Nomani asked the people to open their arms to Afghan refugees and encourage them to return to their country.
On May 28, Iran Center for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants’ Affairs (CAFIA) said with the cancellation of census forms, over four million Afghan refugees in Iran have been declared illegal and have time July 5 to leave the country.
