AIBAK (Pajhwok): Local officials in northern Samangan province say 120 shelters have been constructed at a cost of more than 42 million afghanis and handed over to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returning refugees.
Refugee and Repatriation Director Qari Mohammad Khalid Khaksar said the project was implemented by the Afghan Community and Health Rehabilitation Organization (ACHRO) in less than a year in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The project was carried out under the supervision of the Refugee Department, the Economic Department, and the Governor’s Office.
He added the 120 shelters were built in Aibak city and Dara-i-Suf Paeen district, with each unit having two rooms, a hall, and a toilet.
Meanwhile, several families benefited from the shelters expressed their satisfaction but also called for further support, including access to electricity, healthcare facilities, and the construction of paved roads in their neighborhoods.
Abdul Sattar, a resident of Aibak, welcomed the project but urged authorities to also address other essential needs such as electricity, roads, clean drinking water and health services.
