KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran will host a regional meeting on Afghanistan in Tehran next week with the participation of special representatives of neighboring countries, an official says.
ISNA news agency quoted Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei as saying that Tehran was continuously consulting with neighboring countries, including Afghanistan and Pakistan, to establish peace and stability in the region.
He added: “Iran attaches key importance to security and stability in our country’s neighboring environment and spares no effort to reduce tensions and strengthen understanding between the countries of the region in this regard.”
According to Baghaei, this regional meeting on Afghanistan will be held in Tehran next week with the participation of special representatives of Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, China and Russia.
He described the meeting a result of consultations held at various levels with neighboring countries and other regional parties, and expressed hope that the initiative could play an effective role in strengthening coordination and resolving conflicts.
