KABUL (Pajhwok): Refugees International (RI) has called on Pakistan to immediately stop the expulsion of Afghan migrants amid intensified large-scale forced deportations in recent weeks.
In a statement, RI urged Pakistan to consider legal pathways for Afghan migrants to remain in the country.
It said the ongoing forced return process to Afghanistan violates the principle of “non-refoulement” under international law.
The statement noted that more than 146,000 Afghans have been expelled from Pakistan in 2026 alone, in addition to over one million forcibly returned in 2025.
The organisation stressed that migrants should not be used as a tool of political pressure.
Refugees International was founded in 1979 as a citizens’ movement advocating for the rights of people fleeing Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos and has since expanded into a global organisation working to protect refugees worldwide.
