<p class="p2">KABUL (Pajhwok): The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, describing it as a “critical and overdue pause for civilians” who have endured weeks of sustained violence.</p>
<p class="p2"><span class="s2">US President Donald Trump said Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire. </span></p>
<p class="p2"><span class="s2">He added that the agreement was reached during talks between Israeli and Lebanese officials in Washington.</span></p>
<p class="p2"><span class="s2">According to Al Jazeera, the IRC said in a statement that more than 2,100 people had been killed in the fighting in Lebanon, thousands more injured, and over one million displaced.</span></p>
<p class="p2"><span class="s2">The committee stressed that the ceasefire should serve as an important opportunity to protect civilians, ensure sustained humanitarian access, and create conditions for lasting peace.</span></p>
<p class="p2"><span class="s2">The statement also urged all parties to exercise restraint and commit to a political path that would prevent further casualties and address the root causes of the conflict.</span></p>
