UNAMA confirms civilian casualties in Pakistani strikes on Kunar

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) confirms dozens of civilians have been martyred or wounded in recent Pakistani strikes in eastern Kunar province.

In a Facebook post, the mission stressed that civilians and civilian sites, including educational facilities, must be protected at all times under international humanitarian law.

UNAMA extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Pakistan carried out attacks on parts of Kunar city and the Marawara, Dangam and Shultan districts on Monday afternoon. The strikes also hit the Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University.

According to reports, seven civilians were martyred and 75 others, including women, children and 30 students, were wounded.
