10 killed in shooting in Mexico’s Puebla state

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 10 people have been killed in a shooting in the city of Tehuitzingo in the Mexican state of Puebla.

The state government confirmed on Sunday that the victims included six men, three women and a minor, although their identities have not yet been released.

A report cited by Al Jazeera said the attack took place at around 1:55am local time, when residents reported hearing sustained gunfire.

Authorities said the victims were allegedly attacked by armed individuals at a residence. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

A multi-agency response has been launched, involving the National Guard, the state Attorney General’s Office, and state and municipal police, alongside intelligence and coordination units.

No arrests have been made so far. Separately, the state Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into the incident.

The attack comes as Mexico prepares to co-host the FIFA World Cup in less than a month.
