KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistani authorities have confirmed that one person was killed and 11 others injured after an earthquake struck the Jhelum district of Punjab province.
According to a report by Dawn, the earthquake hit the Jalalpur Sharif area of Pind Dadan Khan tehsil on Tuesday evening, causing severe damage to around 10 houses.
Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Mir Reza Ozgen said police, rescue teams, and local administration officials promptly arrived at the affected area, where rescue operations and damage assessments are currently underway.
Pakistan’s Meteorological Department reported that the earthquake measured 4.8 on the Richter scale. The tremor originated at a depth of 12 kilometers, with its epicenter located 58 kilometers southwest of Jhelum.
