Gold mine extraction contract worth over 802m afs signed in Khost

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) says it has signed a contract with a company for the extraction of a gold mine in the Surkani area of Shamal district in southeastern Khost province, under which more than 802 million afghanis will be invested in the project.

According to a statement from the ministry, the contract was signed by Minister of Mines and Petroleum Mullah Hidayatullah Badri with the Javed Khan Niazi Mining and Processing Commercial Company.

Badri said the mine covers an area of 0.618503 square kilometres and the contract has been awarded for a period of five years.

He added that the company will invest a total of 802,476,000 afghanis in the project and will also fulfill its commitments regarding social services for local residents.

The statement said the head of the Javed Khan Niazi Mining and Processing Company pledged to implement all contractual obligations and complete the project with full transparency and within the stipulated timeframe.

According to the MoMP, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will hold a 60 percent share in the mine.
