KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has said that, under orders from the US President, it has ended all restrictions on maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas.

The announcement comes after the presidents of Iran and the United States signed an agreement on Thursday to formally end the war.

Iran’s IRNA news agency published the text of the agreement, while Reuters reported that both sides have agreed to end hostilities, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, lift the US naval blockade on Iran, and hold 60-day negotiations on complex issues, including sanctions and the nuclear programme.

Meanwhile, CENTCOM said in a statement on X that “today, US forces, under the President’s order, have lifted the blockade on all inbound and outbound maritime traffic to Iranian ports and coastal regions.”

The command added that US forces will no longer prevent vessels from entering or leaving Iranian ports or transiting to other destinations.

CENTCOM further stated: “All US military efforts to enforce the blockade have been halted.”

However, it emphasized that US naval vessels will remain in international waters to ensure compliance with the agreement and to monitor its implementation.
