KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi and officials of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have discussed expanding cooperation in the intellectual, cultural and artistic development of children and youth.

Azizi met with UNICEF representatives in Kabul on Thursday, the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) said in a statement.

The two sides discussed strengthening cooperation in promoting the intellectual, cultural and artistic growth of children and young people.

Azizi said the ministry was ready to further cooperate in promoting a culture of reading, improving public libraries, producing literary and cultural materials for children, enhancing the capacity of writers and implementing joint cultural programmes.

He added that large numbers of students and young people visit public libraries, the National Archives, the National Museum, and the National Institute of Music and Arts daily to learn about Afghanistan’s historical and cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, UNICEF officials shared details about their ongoing activities and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening scientific, cultural and artistic cooperation.
