KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Monday summoned Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul and lodged a strong protest over airstrikes carried out by Pakistan’s military regime in the provinces of Paktia, Paktika and Kunar the previous night.

In a statement, the ministry strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as a clear violation of international principles, humanitarian law and Afghanistan’s national sovereignty.

The statement said: “This is not the first time that the Pakistani military regime has, without presenting any credible evidence or proof, blamed Afghanistan for security incidents, explosions and attacks that occurred hundreds of kilometres away from the Afghan border in Pakistani cities and other highly secured areas.

“Over the past several years, it has repeatedly attempted to cover up its security and political failures through baseless accusations against Afghanistan and has unsuccessfully tried to address these issues through force and military aggression.”

The ministry added that such actions were not a solution to existing problems, but instead seriously damaged mutual trust, neighbourly relations and regional security and stability.

IEA deputy spokesman Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat said Pakistan’s military carried out airstrikes on areas in Samkani district of Paktia, Giyan district of Paktika and Marawara district of Kunar on Sunday night.

He said at least 36 people, including women and children, were martyred and 163 others were wounded in the attacks.
