KABUL (Pajhwok): Argentina and Switzerland have advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating their opponents in the round of 16.

According to reports, Argentina faced Egypt while Switzerland played Colombia in the round of 16 matches on Tuesday night.
Argentina defeated Egypt 3-2 to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Egypt took an early lead after Yasser Ibrahim scored in the 15th minute, before Mostafa Ziko doubled their advantage in the 67th minute to put his side 2-0 ahead.
Argentina failed to score in the first half but Christian Romero pulled one back in the 79th minute, before Lionel Messi equalised in the 83rd minute.
Enzo Fernandez then scored Argentina’s third goal in the second minute of stoppage time to seal victory.
In another match, Switzerland defeated Colombia 4-3 on penalties after the two sides remained goalless after 120 minutes of regular and extra time.
The Swiss side advanced to the quarter-finals after winning the penalty shootout.
