KABUL (Pajhwok): A total of 444 families, comprising 2,259 people, returned to Afghanistan from neighbouring Pakistan and Iran in a single day, an official said on Monday.
Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), shared a report by the High Commission for Addressing Returnees’ Problems on his X account.
According to the report, 385 families, comprising 2,013 people, returned through the Torkham crossing and were registered there.
It said 198 families, comprising 1,091 people, were transported from Torkham to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Kabul provinces, with 819,000 afghanis provided to cover their transport costs.
The report added that 322 families at Torkham received a total of 2.562 million afghanis in cash assistance, while health and telecommunications services were also provided at the Omari Camp.
Meanwhile, 16 families, comprising 84 people, returned through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province.
According to officials, 15 families, comprising 87 people, were transported to different provinces and received 161,000 afghanis to cover their transport expenses.
The commission said 16 families at Spin Boldak also received a total of 132,000 afghanis in cash assistance, along with food, health and telecommunications services.
According to the report, 30 families, comprising 114 people, returned through the Abresham crossing in Nimroz province, while 673 individual travellers also entered the country.
Two families received a total of 20,000 afghanis in cash assistance, while a number of returnees were provided with health services.
The report said 13 families, comprising 48 people, returned through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat province, with 94,000 afghanis distributed among them.
Meanwhile, the Transport Committee transferred 31 families, comprising 177 people, from Kabul to different provinces and provided more than 178,000 afghanis to cover their transport costs.
Overall, the report said 444 families, comprising 2,259 people, returned to Afghanistan, while 244 families, comprising 1,355 people, were transported to different provinces. It added that 353 families received assistance and 382 SIM cards were distributed.
