LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Police have discovered and seized 91 weapons and a large quantity of ammunition and military equipment in southern Helmand province over the past five months, with 30 people arrested in connection with the seizures.
In a statement, the police headquarters said its Counter-Terrorism Department had discovered and seized the weapons and equipment during separate operations over the past five months in Lashkargah and several districts.
It said the seized weapons included 59 pistols, eight Kalashnikov rifles, 21 Kamrshik rifles, two TT machine guns and one rocket launcher.
The operations also resulted in the seizure of 1,967 laser lights, four armoured shields, a large number of military antennas, thousands of rounds of ammunition for light and heavy weapons, and a large quantity of other military equipment.
It added that 30 people had been arrested in connection with the illegal carrying of the weapons and equipment.
The cases of those arrested had been referred to judicial and legal authorities after the preliminary investigations were completed, the police headquarters concluded.
