KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 17 people have been killed and 15 others injured in a shooting at a tavern in South Africa’s Gauteng province, reports said. Police are searching for eight suspects in connection with the incident.
Al Jazeera reported that the shooting took place in Wedela, in the West Rand district southwest of Johannesburg, late on Saturday.
According to South African police, emergency medical personnel declared 17 people dead at the scene. The motive for the shooting has not yet been established.
Police said they were searching for eight suspects who were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols. The suspects allegedly opened fire on people outside the tavern before entering the premises and continuing to shoot.
The report said 15 other people sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to medical facilities for treatment.
South African police have not yet provided further details about the identities of the suspects or the motive for the attack. No arrests have been announced so far.
