KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran has received a US response to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with the response also relayed to President Masoud Pezeshkian, Al Jazeera reported.
Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani, in a statement carried by the IRNA news agency, said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had received the US response through Qatari mediators.
She said the US response was also relayed to President Masoud Pezeshkian during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. No details of the US response were provided.
Mohajerani said that despite what she described as attempts by Iran’s “enemies” to isolate the country politically, the Iranian delegation’s presence in New York had attracted significant attention, with numerous meetings held with European, Arab and other countries.
She added that diplomatic efforts were “being pursued diligently” to find solutions to the crisis after more than seven months of war.
Iran had earlier submitted a seven-day proposal to the United States through Qatari mediators, calling for measures including the lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports and the release of frozen Iranian assets, in return for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and beginning wider negotiations.
US President Donald Trump had previously rejected Iran’s proposal, according to Al Jazeera.
