KABUL (Pajhwok): Officials from the Afghanistan Standards and Quality Authority (ASQA) and Russia’s standards authority have discussed expanding technical cooperation on the sidelines of the general assembly of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) in Kazan, Russia.

In a statement, ASQA said both sides had emphasised the need to expand technical cooperation in developing and implementing standards, exchanging experience and strengthening professional capacity.

Russian officials expressed readiness to provide Afghanistan with the required standards and organise training programmes to enhance the professional skills of ASQA staff, the statement said.

The two sides also agreed to finalise a memorandum of understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation in standards and quality.

The Afghan delegation comprised Mawlawi Mohammad Asif Qanit, deputy technical director of ASQA, and Mawlawi Waheed Ahmad Badri, head of the authority’s office.
