NEW DELHI (PAN’s first Vice President Marshal Mohammed Qasim Fahim on Thursday arrived in India on a three-day state visit at the invitation of Indian President Pratibha Singh Patil.
Besides meeting the Indian Vice-President M Hamid Ansari, Marshal Fahim was expected to call on President Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
External Affairs Minister S M Krishan and National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon would be calling on the Afghan Vice-President.
“The visit of the Vice President Fahim is a continuation of the regular high level exchanges between India and Afghanistan and is a reflection of the close and friendly relations between the two countries,” the MEA said.
India earlier this month received the Afghanistan Minister of Defence Gen. Abdul Rahim Wardak.
Wardak paid a three-day visit to India with a high-level delegation.
Last month Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited Afghanistan to boost bilateral ties.
His visit followed the India visit of Afghan President Hamid Karzai in February.
The two nations recently signed several pacts to boost cooperation and capacity building in various sectors.
