Capacity-building plan for Paktia officials launched

KHOST CITY/GARDEZ (PAN): A training programme for the capability-building of government officials has been launched in southeastern Paktia province, while dozens of people completed a literacy course in Khost province on Monday, officials said.

The 24-day capacity-building training programme involves 700 officials and as many teachers in the provincial capital, Gardez city.

The program has been organised for officials in the city and five districts, education director Mehrabud Din Shafaq told Pajhwok Afghan News.  The participants were provided with books, food, transport fares and daily allowances, he said.

In southeastern Khost province, dozens of people above 30 years of age on Monday completed a literacy course at the Setena Training Institute (STI) in Khost city, the provincial capital.

The attendees were given away certificates on completion of the course at ceremony held at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.  Several government officials and residents attended the ceremony.

So far 123 people, including 50 females, had completed such courses over the past nine months from the centre, said Muhammad Qasim, the STI head.

Meanwhile, various items worth 3.3 million afghanis ($ 66,880) were distributed to different departments in Paktia on Monday.

The supplies, a joint venture of the governor’s house and Asia Foundation, included computers, blankets, books, tables, medical and other office equipment, Roohullah Samoon, the governor’s spokesman, said.
