KABUL): The Interior Ministry on Sunday said the dispute between the police headquarters in northern Takhar province and reporters in the north would be resolved once the case is reviewed.
Two days ago, several reporters, mostly from the northeastern zone (Kundoz, Takhar, Badakhshan and Baghlan) complained that Takhar police chief Khir Mohammad Taimoor failed to release information to the media on time and even threatened them if they asked for certain details.
Dyan Ahmadi, the Free Radio reporter said when they quote the police commander in their report, he abused reporters with harsh words.
Mohammad Qasim Nasirullahi, a reporter with private channel Aryana Television, said a resident of Kalfagan district alleged that his wife was abducted by the former secretary of Takhar’s police headquarters and forced her into marriage. But no action was taken against the person.
“We have talked to the police chief and head of the reporter’s council regarding the issue. Police and journalists should have close relations with each other, the issue will be resolved,” Ghulam Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the ministry told Pajhwok Afghan News.
However, Taimoor rejected the reporters’ allegations and said it was due to personal envy.
“I have not threatened any journalist, information was handed over on time, and media is the eyes and ears of the nation. I respect them,” he added.
The council of ministers’ secretariat also acknowledged they received an open letter sent by the northeastern journalist addressed to President Hamid Karzai.
