MAIMANA (PAN): Minister of Commerce and Industries Anwarul Haq Ahadi on Saturday allocated $6 million (313 million afs) for the construction of an industrial park at the Aqina Port in northern Faryab province, an official said.
The park would involve residential houses, parking lots, paved roads, as well as power and water supply facilities for industrialist, Ahadi said during a visit to commercial sites in Andkhoi district and Aqina Port near the Turkmenistan border.
He acknowledged the allocation was not adequate to meet the needs of local businessmen and carpet weavers. The minister estimated another amount of $8 million was needed.
Free land plots would be allotted to traders and industrialists in Andkhoi, he promised, hoping the step would go go a long way in promoting domestic products and encouraging traders.
Ahadi said the industrial park would be established on 550 acres of land, protected by barbed wire three-year ago.
Last week, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) and traders from Faryab complained the government had ignored the Aqina Port, linking the country with Black Sea.
They asked the government, particularly the commerce and industries ministry, to motivate the private sector by setting up industrial parks in Andkhoi district and Aqina Port.
