KUDUZ CITY (PAN): With the mysterious death of a teenage girl in Takhar, the number of females killed in the northern province over the past 11 months has reached 12, officials said on Thursday.
The 15 years old girl was killed in the Darqad district two days ago, but the motive behind her death remained a mystery, the town’s administrative head, Abdul Ghafoor Ludin, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said a team including representatives of the Public Health Department, Police Headquarters, National Directorate of Security and Prosecutor’s Office had been appointed to exhume the girl’s body for a post-mortem.
Ludin added the victim’s father, who had been arrested by police, was released on bail.
Director of Women’s Affairs Razam Ara Hawash condemned the murder, calling the girl’s death — whether a suicide or a murder — a result of violence. Since March 2012, a dozen women have been killed in the province, she said.
