LASHKARGAH (PAN): Three policemen were killed and seven others wounded, including a commander, during infighting in the Khanshin district of southern Helmand province on Wednesday, an official said.
The clash erupted in the district police headquarters before noon, the district chief, Haji Anwar Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The reason behind the incident remains unclear, but an investigation has been launched.
The district police chief, Rauf Khan, suffered bullet injuries as he entered the police headquarters, Khan said, adding the dead included a check-post commander, Sardar Mohammad.
But the Taliban claimed it was “an insider attack” carried out by a fighter who had recently joined the force. The attack left six policemen dead, including two commanders, the rebels said.
