FARAH CITY/MAHMUD RAQI (PAN): A commander was among three Afghan Local Police (ALP) members killed in a roadside bomb attack in the Bala Balok district of western Farah province, an official said on Saturday.
Another three ALP members were injured in the blast that took place a day earlier in the Kansak village, the governor’s spokesman, Abdul Rahman Zhwandai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The ALP commander, General Mohammad Alam, alias Muhim Jo, was a commander of the Jamiat-i-Islami. He led a 150-member ALP force in the Kansak village over the past two months.
A resident of the village, Nasrullah, who confirmed the death of Alam and two others in the blast, said Alam’s vehicle was comprehensively damaged in the explosion.
The Taliban have claimed they were behind the bomb attack.
In central Kapisa province, four suspected insurgents were killed and another four injured when a bomb in their possession went off in the Nijrab district.
Deputy police chief Abdul Jalil Shamal said the incident took place on Friday afternoon when the insurgents were planting mines on a road.
He said the dead included Hamza, who led a 30-member Taliban group.
