MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The Independent Election Commission (IEC) office in northern Balkh province on Monday said its activities in some districts had come to a standstill due to bad weather conditions.
Izzat Arman, the office head, told Pajhwok Afghan News in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, that they were concerned about the situation in some districts following heavy rains.
He said election workers remained stranded in Zara, Charkand and Kushanda districts. Election workers have streamlined all affairs in districts and now local officials should maintain them.
Arman said of the stranded election officials, some had been able to reach district centres on the back of animals. He added rains continued to lash the province and their problems could further increase.
He confirmed receiving election materials, which he said would be dispatched to districts soon, but feared rains could create problems in this regard as well.
