KABUL (Pajhwok): A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the open-ended Richter scale jolted parts of the capital Kabul and other provinces on Saturday.
According to the US Geology Survey (USGS), the earthquake took place at 8:28 am. Its epicenter was located in Jurm district of northeastern Badakhshan province.
However, there were no reports of life and material losses. Panic gripped residents of the capital and other parts of the country as the quake struck.
Afghanistan is one of the countries located in the earthquake zone; particularly its northeastern regions are most vulnerable. An earthquake in 2012 in eastern Afghanistan caused many casualties.
