KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) on Sunday launched the third generation (3G) technology service in Kabul, saying it would soon be expanded to other provinces.
The company obtained a licence for 3G Internet services from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology at a cost of $25 million last year.
Other telecom firms like Etisalat, MTN, Roshan and Salaam have already launched 3G services in the country.
AWCC chief executive, Aminullah Ramin, said they would provide better and speedy internet service for their customers. “The system that we have launched is the latest in the world and has no competitor in the region.”
Acting communications minister Baryalai Hassam said people complained about the slow internet and that was something the companies should try to resolve.
More than 40 percent of the population had access to internet in 22 provinces all over the country and the number was increasing on daily basis, Hassam added.
