LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Three people including the administrative chief for Nawzad district were killed in separate incidents of violence in southern Helmand province on Monday, an official said.
A meeting between the district chief, police and spy officials was underway when one of the security guards opened firing on them. A police commander, a tribal elder and a member of Ulema Council were killed.
Requesting not to be named, an official said district chief Syed Murad Agha and police officer Shamsullah were killed. A spy official and the assailant were wounded in the incident that took place at around 5:00pm.
The governor’s spokesman Umar Zwak confirmed the incident, saying police had started an investigation.
Separately, unidentified gunmen shot dead Mullah Karim, a member of the Ulema Council, in front of his house in Sapyano locality, police spokesman Col. Farid Ahmad Obaid said.
The Helmand Ulema Council head confirmed the shooting. He said Karim had been a member of the peace body for six years.
Elsewhere, unknown gunmen shot dead tribal elder Mohammad Hussain in the Zarash locality of Nawa district.
