Canada-based Afghan students assist Kunduz families

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): An aid package donated by Canada-based Afghan students was distributed among the conflict-affected families in northeastern Kunduz province, an official said on Friday.

Ajmal Sarfaraz, the aid coordinator, told Pajhwok Afghan News the package worth $6,000 contained ghee, rice, peas and beans.

He said 150 families received the aid in the first phase and another 150 families would be distributed in the goods in the next phase.

Afghan university residents from Kunduz province in Canada collected money and bought the food items, he said, urging Afghan students in foreign countries to carry out similar campaigns and help their people.

One of the beneficiaries, Abdul Wadood, who fled Chahar Dara district to the provincial capital due to insecurity, thanked the donators.

“Taliban used our house as their bastion, but government forces destroyed it with mortar shells. We need even a piece of bread,” he said.

Wadood, who is currently living with his eight family members in a tent, asked the government to improve security in their area so they could return to their home.
