TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): At least 18 Taliban insurgents, including two commanders, have been killed in airstrikes by Afghan forces in central Uruzgan province, local officials said Sunday.
Acting provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Sidiqi, said the air raids were carried out in Gagrak and Yaklinga areas of Tirinkot city, the provincial capital, and Khas Uruzgan district on Saturday night.
He said the airstrikes in both the areas left 18 insurgents dead, including two commanders and destroyed weapons and vehicles belonging to the insurgents.
Sidiqi alleged the Taliban used women and children as shield in battlegrounds to create problems for security forces.
However, the Taliban denied using civilians as human shield.
