KABUL (Pajhwok): If US troops remain in Afghanistan after May 1 this year, President Joe Biden will be violating the 2020 peace pact signed by his predecessor with the Taliban, says a retired American politician.
In an article for Newsmax, a conservative American news and opinion website, Ron Paul warned a delayed withdrawal could lead to Americans and Afghans dying needlessly.
He recalled the Trump administration, under the peace agreement with the Taliban, had promised all US troops would exit Afghanistan by the first of May.
But in his obsession with tossing out anything associated with Trump, President Biden would continue to keep US forces in harm’s way in this pointless war, the author claimed.
An ex-Republican member of the US House of Representatives, he claimed the Taliban had kept their end of the peace deal as no Americans have been killed in Afghanistan since Feb. 29, 2020..
Delaying the troop exit means more Americans may be killed, according to Paul, who argued the result of the conflict would not change by keeping US troops in Afghanistan four another months.
“So if another American is killed, who is going to explain to the grieving family why their loved one had to remain in harm’s way for a good 9/11 photo-op?” he asked.
