Antony Blinken asked Afghanistan’s new rulers to uphold human rights, allow freedom of movement, halt reprisals and combat terrorism.
Addressing a media briefing, America’s top diplomat promised looking intensely at options to put more liquidity into Afghanistan’s tattered economy.
Pakistani newspaper Dawn quoted him as saying the US was part of the release of about $280 million recently in the Afghan Trust Fund.
While studying ways of injecting more liquidity into the Afghan economy, the US and its allies were looking to it that the funds did not directly benefit the Taliban, he explained.
Biden recalled the US had issued multiple general licences to ensure that other countries, institutions, felt free to move forward with their assistance to Afghanistan.
