Jawzjan youth donates 450 books to public library

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Civil society activist Abdul Malik Rustami has donated 450 books to a public library in Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province.

Rustami purchased books on his own money and donated them to a public library to promote the culture of books reading among youth.

During the books donation he told Information and Cultural Department officials: “Gifting books means gifting knowledge, development of every country is linked with the graph of books reading by its people.”

Azizullah, a young man, said: “As I heard, public library has many books for reading. It is a good place where youth could find books and magazines of their interest.”

This library doesn’t have a sitting area where youth could sit and read books.

He hoped that official will pay attention to the rehabilitation of this library and make it classical.

Jawzjan Information Department Director Dr. Helal Balkhi said the purpose of general library in Shiberghan was to promote the culture of book reading among youth.

He asked youth and civil society activists that besides promoting the culture of book reading they should promote support for libraries as well.

“Individuals with financial resources could help us improve the libraries structure and book storage,” he said.

Public library in Shiberghan was opened in 1961 and has 20,000 books.
