Over 5,000 vulnerable Kunduz children get primary education

KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): After the fall of the past government, the UN International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in cooperation with the local government in northern Kunduz province has facilitated 5,260 students to attend elementary studies, an official said on Thursday.

The students of these educational centers are happy and asked the government and other relevant institutions to pay more attention to them.

Mawlavi Ahmad Shah Haqqani, the head of labor and social affairs department, told Pajhwok Afghan News, that most of these educational centers have been built in war-hit and remote areas.

“After the takeover by Islamic Emirate such educational centers were built for nearly for 5,260 students with the financial assistance of UNICEF and to metalize the children’s minds from war to education,” Haqqani said.

He assured aid providing institutions security and asked them to provide more support to children in the area of education.

One of the teachers, Lema told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The students are very happy, we teach 60 students in two separate times and provide them toys too. We want to change their minds war to education.”

One of the students, Hazrat Omar told Pajhwok: “I love the course, we are learning here, it is providing us the toys too, we are tired of the wars.”

The government and UNICEF facilitated primary education at times when thousands of children had been left out of education in the province.
