MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Some women in northern Balkh province have started selling old clothes on a roadside while government officials said efforts were underway to generate work opportunities for women.
Engela, 30, told Pajhwok Afghan News she is the mother of six children and during the past government she worked in one of the government institution.
She said currently she has nothing to do and due to economic problems she had to sell old clothes close to Roza Shrine in Mazar-i-Sharif.
Manezha, another seller of old clothes told Pajhwok Afghan News that she studied till class 12th and from the past 8 months she was busy selling old clothes on the roadside.
She said due to deteriorated economic situation she had to sell old clothes on the roadside.
She asked the acting government to help generate job opportunities for women in the government institutions.
Shah Gul, is another lady who sell old clothes on the roadside. She is disabled on one leg and lost nearly six member of her family during the past conflicts.
Near Roza Shrine in Mazar-i-Sharif City tens of women who economic condition is not sound had erected stalls and sell clothes.
Balkh Social Affairs Department Head Naseer Ahmad Abu Khalid said 400 widow or vulnerable women were registered with the Social Affairs Department who sell clothes close to Roza Shrine.
He said the acting government was trying to generate job opportunities for these women.
