AIBAK (Pajhwok): Some residents of the Khoram Sarbagh district in northern Samangan province say without the district centre telecommunication service is not functional in other areas.

Khoram Sarbagh district is situated 37 kilometres from Aibak, the provincial capital, and according to local sources nearly 50,000 people lived there who have limited access to telecommunication service.

Abdul Ghafoor, one of the teachers and local elders, told Pajhwok Afghan news the lack of access to telecommunication service in some villages of the district created problems for the people.

He said: “During the previous regime, we asked the local government to solve this problem several times through petitions, but they did not pay attention at all”.

He said thousands of families are deprived of access to telecommunication services in the villages of Dakhelzo, Chaharng, Kende Kalan, Pas Hessar, Zir Meng Pas Hesar, Sar Meng Pas Hesar.

Samaruddin a young boy also complained the limited access to telecommunication services in villages for many years.

He considers lack of access to telecommunication services as the biggest problem.

Mouluddin another resident complain about lack of access to telecommunication services for many years and have been more problems.

They ask the local government to solve this problem and provide them full access to telecommunication and internet services.

District Chief Maulvi Muhammad Feroz Farooqi, Khoram Sarbagh District chief, confirms to Pajhwok Afghan News that more than 6,000 families are completely deprived of access to telecommunication services.

Afghanistan Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (ATRA) administration officials said that two sites of MTN Telecommunication Company were working and Salam Telecommunication Company also activated in the district.

Atra Administration Director Gulbuddin Yousfi said after the establishment of the IEA government Salam Telecommunication Company site which was burned, has been reactivated.

He said that they have received the residents’ complaints and the office has sent a written letter to central office for problem solution.

He said with growing population there was increase in the demand for  improved telecommunication service, adding that efforts were underway to address these problems.
