JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Eighteen new telecommunication sites were installed and activated this year in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Maulvi Zabihullah Zaki, Nangarhar telecommunication and information technology director, told a meeting they activated 18 new telecom sites this year in remote districts of the province.
He added 33 more telecom sites were needed in the province and their activation would enable the people to have access to telecom services.
He added: "The Jalalabad-Torkham, Kunar-Laghman and Kabul provinces highways have been surveyed and their report sent to the center for approval to install telecom systems on these highways."
He also said that this year they connected nine government agencies and 20 telecommunication sites to optical fiber and the quality of internet services had improved.
Recently, there was a problem in the distribution of SIM cards in the province because new SIM cards were reserved only for refugees returning from Pakistan, he explained.
