KABUL (Pajhwok): A key regional meeting of research centres from Afghanistan, Central Asia and Azerbaijan will be held in Kabul tomorrow under the auspices of the Strategic Studies Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).

According to a statement from the ministry, the high-level meeting will take place on 16 June 2026 in Kabul and will be organised and hosted by the Strategic Studies Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Researchers and policymakers from strategic studies centres operating under the offices of the presidents of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan are expected to participate.

The statement said the meeting comes at a time when cooperation between Afghanistan and regional countries is steadily expanding.

Participants will discuss key issues including regional connectivity, stability, trade, energy, transit, investment and economic cooperation.

They will also review ongoing cooperation between Afghanistan and Central Asian countries, with a focus on practical, implementable and result-oriented proposals.

The ministry said one of the key features of the meeting is that research institutions from participating countries will directly share their perspectives on common challenges and opportunities, which is expected to further strengthen policy coordination among them.

It added that the meeting will be formally inaugurated by Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The forum is expected not only to reflect Afghanistan’s balanced and economy-focused foreign policy, but also to open a new chapter in strengthening mutual trust, expanding economic and transit cooperation, and promoting sustainable regional stability and shared prosperity among Afghanistan, Central Asia and Azerbaijan.

According to the statement, the forum demonstrates that Afghanistan remains an important and active partner in regional connectivity, cooperation and economic growth.
