The demonstrators called for the immediate lifting of restrictions imposed on Afghan girls’ education above sixth grade, women’s employment and other social activities. Pajhwok Afghan News has dedicated today’s Perspective discussion to the rallies in support of the Afghan women and girls in different cities of Canada, the US and the UK. On Sunday, the Afghan women living in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver, Washington DC and London staged the protests. The protestors simultaneously underlined the need for justice to women and restoration of their rights and activities. They also chanted slogans in support of girls’ education, work and freedoms. In today’s debate, former member of the lower house of parliament Simeen Barakzai and former minister of labour and social affairs from Vancouver Nasreen Oriakhel, Rubia Hamdard, a women’s right activist from Calgary, Mari Akrami, ex-executive director of the Afghan Women’s Network from Washington DC and some participants of the protests participated in the discussion.
