FARAH CITY (PAN): Two assailants and a civilian were killed and eight others, including three security personnel, wounded in militant attacks on police checkpoints in the western province of Farah, an official said on Friday.
A three-hour clash erupted at 3pm on Thursday when the Taliban stormed four police checkpoints in the Shiwan village of Bala Baluk district, the acting police chief of the province said.
Col. Mohammad Ghaus Malyar told Pajhwok Afghan News that five attackers and three Afghan security men were wounded in the gunbattle,.
A resident of the area, who did not want to be named, confirmed that an 80-year-old man was killed. Five others, including two women and three children, were wounded, he claimed.
Two wounded Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were among the four people brought to Farah Civil Hospital, said the acting director of the hospital, Dr. Abdul Manan Rashidi.
