KABUL and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Saturday signed a Letter of Intent to consolidate the process the UNDP has initiated in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Finance said.
“This signing between the Ministry of Finance and UNDP is very significant because it further strengthens national ownership at this critical time,” a statement issued by the ministry quoted finance minister, Dr. Omar Zakhilwal as saying.
He said they greatly welcomed UNDP’s continued commitment to Afghan development.
Speaking on the occasion, the visiting UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Assistant Administrator, and also UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Ajay Chhibber said the UNDP would continue to work alongside the Afghan government, donors and other partners to ensure Afghanistan meets its development goals.
“Today’s signing shows our commitment to the Afghan people,” he said.
He said the Letter of Intent further consolidated the process that UNDP had initiated in Afghanistan to strengthen national leadership and capacity development in the management of international assistance.
