400 Nangarhar families receive aid

JALALABAD (PAN province were given similar assistance, officials said.

In Nangarhar, the aid was distributed with financial support from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the provincial refugee department to families returning from Pakistan to three districts.

The refugee department director, Ghulam Haidar Faqirzi, told Pajhwok Afghan News the aid was given to 77 families in Dara-i-Noor, 271 families in Kama and 57 families in Gushta districts.

Each family received one blanket, one tarpaulin, one shawl, two gas cylinders, warm shirts, water jerry canes and some other items, he added.

“We have so far distributed aid to returning and displaced families in all districts of Nangrahar, and a team is still surveying to identify newly returned families who own refugee cards,” the director, said. He added if a family did not receive the aid, it could contact the department.

Syed Wali, a resident of Landa Boch area in Kama district, said the relief would resolve his family’s problems to some extent. He urged aid giving organisations to provide them more such assistance in the future.

Local officials in Nangarhar said donor agencies had assisted about 3000 destitute families this year.

Meanwhile, the governor’s house in Kabul said 200 families in Khaki Jabbar district distributed relief goods. In a statement, the governor’s office said the aid included blankets, thermoses, cooking dishes and jackets for children.

The assistance had been provided by the Turkish government, the governor’s spokesman, Wasiullah Miakhel, said.

According to the statement, about 600 flood-affected families had previously been provided assistance in the same district.
