WASHINGTON (PAN): The UN Security Council on Monday condemned the terrorist attack near the Indian Consulate in Jalalabad and urged countries to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The members of the Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice,” said Ambassador María Cristina Perceval of Argentina, which holds the Security Council presidency for the month of August
She urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate with Afghan authorities in this regard.
Security Council members condemned in the strongest terms the suicide attack on August 3 near the Indian mission in Jalalabad, Perceval said, adding the 15-membered body expressed its sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the government of Afghanistan.
Reaffirming that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations was criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation, the Security Council reiterated the need to combat by all means threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
Perceval stressed “no terrorist act can reverse the path towards Afghan-led peace, democracy and stability in Afghanistan,” which is supported by the people and the government of Afghanistan and the international community.
