GHAZNI (PAN): Three policemen harassing girls were beaten and their vehicle torched by residents in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Saturday.
The incident took place in the Hyderabad area on the outskirts of Ghazni City, the provincial capital where the police tried to abuse four girls on Friday night.
Deputy Governor Mohammad Ali Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the policemen had been referred to the intelligence department. They are under investigation.
Mohammad, a resident of area, said the policemen had to come to the village in a car. They allegedly asked four girls to get into their car.
“After the girls entered the car willingly, residents captured arrested the police personnel and set fire to their vehicle,” he added.
Another villager, Mohammad Husain, said there were two policemen and a traffic official in the car. They informed the girls over the telephone to come out of homes as they arrived in Hyderabad.
He said: “I saw them myself and informed the people who gathered in the mosque before arresting the policemen.”
