JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of the Behsud district of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday protested against a verdict of the Jalalabad-based court.
The protestors accused the Nangarhar court of appeal of corruption and a former Wolesi Jirga member, Shahla Atta, of grabbing public and private land.
Chanting slogans “death to judges” and “death to Shahla Atta,” the protestors claimed the former lawmaker had usurped public and private land plots measuring 790.5 acres.
One of them, Hamidullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the court of appeal had delivered an unjust decision by giving the private and public property to Shahla Atta.
He said the female former MP had claimed ownership of the land in Zangoyee area of Behsud district and the court had ruled in her favour, legalising illegal occupation of the land by the woman.
Another participant of the rally, Naqibullah, said the land belonged to local residents and asked the court to respond positively to their claim.
However, the court officials said the protestors were illegally claiming ownership rights of the land.
Mohammad Sharif Amin, the court head, said the protestors were not real owners of the land.
He insisted the court decision was in line with the law and the jury had not violated anyone’s right.
Pajhwok tried to contact Atta for her comments, but failed.
