Tashkent conference on Afghanistan set to begin

KABUL involving regional powers and representatives from the US, Russia and China is set to begin in Tashkent today.

The event is aimed at exploring ways of bringing the Afghan government, the Taliban and other warring parties into direct peace talks. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, the United Nations, the European Union are among the invitees.

The UK, Germany, France and Italy have also received invitations. Representatives of all Central Asian states are in attendance.
